Four and three iambics alternate are known as Ballad or Service stanza. A slight variation of the latter goes by the name of Gray's stanza.
All melancholy lying
Thus wailed she for her dear; Replied each blast with sighing,
Each billow with a tear.

These are called quintains, and have been employed by our poets in great variety of rhyme and length of verse.
That was I you heard last night,
When there rose no moon at all, Nor, to pierce the strained and tight
Tent of heaven, a planet small: Life was dead, and so was light.
